Why integration — not the model — is the hard part

TL;DR

The model is a commodity — anyone can call the same API you can. The durable value is in how reliably that model connects to your data, your tools and your team's workflow. Integration is where AI projects succeed or quietly fail.

There's a comforting myth that the hard part of an AI project is picking the right model. It isn't. The models are converging, they're improving monthly, and you call most of them through nearly identical APIs. The model is a commodity.

The hard part — the part that decides whether a project earns its keep — is everything around the model.

Where the real work lives

Connecting the model to your actual data. Handling the inputs that don't look like the happy-path demo. Deciding what happens when confidence is low. Logging every decision so it's auditable. Putting the output where your team already works, instead of in yet another dashboard nobody opens.

Swap the model and most systems keep working. Break the integration and nothing does. That tells you where the value really sits.

Why this matters for what you build

If integration is the durable value, then you should design for it. We build systems where the model underneath can be swapped as better ones arrive — because it will — without rewriting the reliable plumbing around it.

That's the difference between an AI investment that compounds and one you rebuild every time the landscape shifts.

Connecting AI to the tools you already run is most of what we do. Let's talk about yours.

Frequently asked questions

You're paying for the integration and the reliability: connecting the model to your data and tools, handling the messy edge cases, building evaluation and guardrails, and making the whole system dependable enough that your team stops double-checking it.

Less than you'd think. Models are increasingly interchangeable and improve constantly. What rarely changes is the value of clean integration — so we design systems that can swap the model underneath without rewriting everything around it.
